Its going to blow by $50 and to $70 and maybe more by the time we are at the start of the week 2 of the NFL season (September 17). DraftKings is technology stock meets gambling Three main products: Daily fantasy sports or DFS, Sportsbook, iGaming DFS is OG DraftKings. Fantasy sports are where players make fantasy teams and battle each other to win money. However, sportsbook is where the money is: betting actual money on actual sports against the house. iGaming is basically an online casino with some online games you can gamble on, in addition to the classics like blackjack and Russian roulette. In addition to DraftKings, there’s also SBTech, the online gambling technology company that had an arranged marriage as part of the DKNG merger. Landmark Case In 2018, the Supreme Court knocks down the federal law prohibiting sports gambling throughout the United States. Pandora’s box is open. Each state has to decide what it wants to do with gambling on its own. The Path to Legalization Map of Sportsbook legality DFS legality is more widespread Currently, 36% of the USA population lives in a state with some form of legal gambling and 24% in a state with legal online gambling. The population living where DraftKings is live or going live is only 13% of the country. There’s a lot of ground to cover. NJ is the posterchild for sports betting legalization at the moment, and it’s DraftKings promised land. Generating 30% of DraftKings total revenue, it is a testament to the money waiting to be made if sports betting is made fully legal. The Risks for DraftKings Regulation: Gambling is a money-maker, but it’s also a social disease. States will want to cash in with taxes of 6.8 to 36% but it will be a tough battle to make it happen. And that battle will unfold state by state. Just like with the marijuana industry, the fate of the market is undeniably shaped by how legalization unfolds. It could end up being a niche hobby in select states, or it could end up like gambling in the United Kingdom, where there’s a gambling shop on every corner. Or there could be a huge gambling market, but one that is monopolized by the States exclusively. If they’re going to allow gambling, why not take all the profits, right? Competition: FanDuel and DraftKings once considered a merger before the FTC played tough. Now, together they own 95% of the DFS market in the USA with a slight majority going to DraftKings. However, there will be fierce competition as new states open up, and missteps could be stifling for either company in the early stages. The lifeblood fueling this battle? Cold hard cash burned up in advertising and incentivizing dollars. Maybe it’s not as bad as Uber since gambling has a chance at being profitable, but if you don’t like to see money burning, think twice about entering the online sports betting market over this coming decade. Technology: The hardware of gambling is a liability. Paying for the bandwidth needed at the exact moment of a match when everybody checks their bet is expensive. Payment processing, user validation, server hosting, sports data, app store placement: these are all areas of vulnerability and cost that you can minimize but can’t eliminate. With SBTech in the fold, having complete vertical integration is the aim and strength of DraftKings. The House Always Wins…Usually: Writing bets means risk. But Sportsbook and iGaming have classic gambling risks which should be fine over the long-term. The Good Side (and Oh God They’re Beautiful) Growth Potential: It’s a technology stock. The PE Ratio is over 600. When you buy DraftKings, you’re buying the dream of an America where gambling is as American as the Ford F150. A matured Sportsbook market in the USA would be around $20 billion, about $85 per adult. It’s a beautiful untapped (and non-existent) market with lots of money waiting to be taken. With Coronavirus, the slice of the sports betting pie that goes digital is bound to be more than ever before, if the sports happen COVID19: The only thing that can stop a sports betting company from making money is getting rid of sports. Thankfully, new sports like Table Tennis, eSports, and a host of other betting topics have allowed DraftKings to get by. With lots of cash on hand ($450 million plus) and a monthly burn of $15 million, there’s enough to weather the storm. And if sports reopen with empty stadiums, fans may turn to online gambling to get their authentic sport experience. Turnaround Time: The largest expense that DraftKings has is conquering new markets. Every time a state opens up, it’s a massive investment. That’s why analysts and executives don’t think DraftKings will run net positive for years to come. However, DraftKings experience in New Jersey has shown an average turnaround time of about two years is all it takes to recoup their initial investment when entering a new market. Some pretty tasty data to have coming in. The Numbers Revenue was up to $323 million in 2019 from $226 million and $191 million the years prior. NJ made up $86 million of that, growing by 8.5x after sports betting legalization in late 2018 to make up over a quarter of revenue in 2019. Net loss however was $146 million in 2019 from $76 million and $73 million the years prior. Cost of Revenue was $103 million, Sales and Marketing was $185 million, Product and Tech was $55 million, and General and Administrative was $124 million of that. DraftKings has never been in the green. They attribute the accelerated burn in 2019 to growth in new markets so whether its aggressive or reckless is up to you. To be fair, if you’re investing in this stock, you should be expecting them to burn every single dollar they get at this point. Average monthly unique players was up to 684k in 2019 from 601k and 574k with the average revenue per monthly unique player up to $39 from $31 and $28. As of March 31st 2020, there were 720k monthly unique players with average revenue of $41 per. So continued growths in the midst of the early Coronavirus pandemic. Q2 will be revealing for certain. The stock just skyrocketed to $34+ yesterday meaning a market cap of over $10 billion and a PE ratio of over 600. Take it for what it’s worth to you. Some Quirks DraftKings revenue is seasonal. Q4 is the best when the NFL and NBA coincide, with Q3 and Q1 being roughly equivalent, and Q2 basically being garbage. With COVID mainly taking out Q2, perhaps there’s hope for sports by Q3 and Q4 to hit those high-earning months? Controlled Structure: You get 1 vote for 1 stock, but CEO and Founder Jason Robins gets 10 votes for each stock. So whatever you do, he has 90% of the voting power. Good for long-term growth in a highly reactive landscape, but being powerless is never a fun feeling. SBTech offers B2B solutions for other gambling companies looking to offer online sports betting and iGaming, so there’s that added benefit. In fact, the share of B2B has been growing from 1% in 2018 to 5% in 2019, so some diversification is happening. DraftKings’s ticker symbol DKNG reminds me of Donkey Kong

Tony says he feels "really, really great" and "well prepared" about their first episode.
Feels like they're getting amazing press. With the help of TNT/Warner Media, they've had advertising through podcasts, social media, Facebook ads, mainstream TV ads (NFL, HBO, "wrestling TV"), airports, movie theater trailers, etc.
Since watching the shows from gorilla, while also producing, is different from just watching the shows live, Tony makes sure to always watch the shows back (usually the next day), and plans to continue that for TV. Mentions that he watched Fight for the Fallen after he watched WWE Extreme Rules, and was "blown away by how much better our show was" and felt like that was one of AEW's weaker shows.
Says Double or Nothing is "the most commercially and critically successful wrestling pay-per-view" of the year. Cites doing over 110,000 buys at the price point they set, for their first ever show, while not having any TV to build it up. Happy with how well All Out did, despite the challenges of losing Jon Moxley to a MRSA infection 10 days before.
Top-5 issues he's had with their shows (in no particular order):
1. The Double or Nothing Casino Battle Royale started out flat, because they wanted to build towards a moment with MJF and Shawn Spears (that would factor into the future animosity between them), but the downside is that their first impression suffered because of it.
2. They could have (and were supposed to) handle the chairshot from Shawn Spears to Cody better, but it didn't go off as planned. Thankfully Cody was okay, and thought the Cody/Shawn Spears feud was fantastic.
3. The Hangman Page vs. Kip Sabian match should not have gone as long as it did. He regrets not having cut 5 minutes from it, plus it went 2 minutes longer than it was supposed to. Felt like it dragged, and didn't do anyone any favors (thinks it should have gone 12-13, not 17-19 minutes).
4. Losing Jon Moxley to MRSA, but think they handled that as well as they could. Really glad Jon's okay, and they're focused on Moxley vs Omega going forward.
5. Concedes that the Buy-In shows probably shouldn't have so much comedy when the main card is so serious.
As far as TV goes, you can still expect to see the arenas set up in a similar way, great wrestling matches, and a high production value. You probably won't see things like the Moxley vs Janela match.
Tonight's countdown special on TNT is designed to help introduce AEW to new viewers. They suspect that a lack of wrestling on Tuesday night (for the first time in a long time) will lead to viewers seeking out wrestling programming on TV.
While a lot of people will show up for a TV premiere, if you don't deliver then they might not show up for Week 2. He "wants Week 2 to be just as big of an event as Week 1, and Week 3 to be just as big as Week 1 and 2, and so forth." They're planning on "rolling out huge things every week."
Talks about the importance of Being the Elite - and how AEW wouldn't exist without it - despite it being a very different tone from AEW's shows. Says the "Road to" series will probably be more in-line with the tone they're going for for their shows. Says there's nothing wrong with having a sketch comedy show on YouTube, and a serious wrestling show on TV (which isn't to say that they'll never have comedic segments).
Doesn't want to insult people's intelligence. Against "invisible cameras" and doesn't want to rely on "DQ's," "ridiculous ref bumps," and "distraction roll-ups" too often.
His own personal wrestling influences are wide-ranging, dating as far back as the WWWF, and including Memphis, Mid-South, 90s New Japan and All Japan, and 2010s New Japan (references Kenny Omega, Prince Devitt, and Kota Ibushi). Says he shares common interests with Cody regarding Jim Crockett Promotions, WCW, and Mid-Atlantic; and common interests with Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks with Japanese wrestling.
Even though "they all have different tastes in wrestling," they have a "similar mindset for what is good and what is bad." "90+% of the time" when one of them thinks they have a good idea, they all agree.
Hopes to grow the audience by putting on a great show, rather than trying to cater to specific demographics.
Designed to be more sports-based, but that doesn't mean they will lack drama (just like traditional sports aren't devoid of drama). Stories will stem from "wrestling in the ring," "personal issues," and "grudges" - with less focus on the "preposterous" and "ridiculous."
Wasn't surprised to see to see NXT go head-to-head with AEW on TV. Says that if AEW ran Tuesdays, he would have suspected NXT would move to that day (and says that arguably would have made more sense for NXT, since moving Smackdown to Fridays and potentially losing those Tuesday viewers).
While the shows will be wrestling-heavy, they will still have promos ("We have Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley: it would be insane not to let these guys talk") - "just not ridiculous, scripted promos."
Doesn't want to "over-produce" the commentary. While he has chimed in "a handful of times" for things to say - and while he regrets some things that have been said - he likes that it feels "real" and "organic."
Wants to have a show that's focused "in and around the ring" (compares to how the UFC is presented). Doesn't like so much focus on what's happening backstage.
Since the show is TV-14, they are being given more leeway and are being encouraged to be themselves and "be edgy."
In regards to WWE, they're not attempting to "counter-program" them or anything, but aren't above poking fun. They just don't want it to "become a habit" or "become a theme of the show." He was fine with Cody smashing the throne, because it came from his personal experiences. Says they're a "challenger brand," and while there isn't just one competitor, "there's one obvious competitor that we're always going to be compared to, for the foreseeable future." He doesn't think that's necessarily a bad thing, but actually a good thing - "especially after Monday."
Wants wrestlers to appear authentic. In regards to their characters, he doesn't want people to do things that they don't believe themselves. He's against writing dialogue for wrestlers, and thinks it can just result in them coming off as bad actors.
Says he's been "waiting for this moment for a really long time." In regards to the start date, he says that he's "known for a year and a half that this day is coming, and I could have told you that it was either going to be today or tomorrow." Cannot legally get into specifics, but says he has a "long-term," "multi-year" commitment with TNT.
In regards to wrestling being looked down upon by TNT in the past, he says that "absence makes the heart grow fonder." Says he was able to demonstrate factual numbers and patterns to say that "TNT had a big wrestling audience, and we can have one again. We're going to have one. We're going to have it tomorrow and we're going to have it a long time."
Committed to doing big, quarterly PPVs. Also interested in other big events (like the CEO-partnered Fyter Fest, and the charity fundraising Fight for the Fallen) that they can put out either through BRLive or streaming. Double or Nothing will always be held Memorial Day weekend in Las Vegas. All Out will always be held Labor Day weekend in the Chicago area. Full Gear has a chance to be the big, winter quarterly show (didn't necessarily seem to be as committed to the idea of it staying in the Baltimore area).
Says the ITV deal was not supposed to be announced (sounds very annoyed with this situation). They had replays scheduled for Sunday/Monday, "but they're still working on getting the show on earlier." He fully expects "this week" that they'll be up before that. It was just announced prematurely before everything was fully hammered out. "Hopefully stay tuned and we'll have some good news soon."
In regards to planning out TV, especially further down the line: "It's going to be way harder than we thought. It's going to be really hard, I know it's going to be, but it's not going to be the first time I've tried to do something I haven't done before. I think we have good aptitudes for this. I think it's going to be a challenge, and I don't expect it to be easy at all - believe me - but I do think we're going to pull it off and I think it's going to go great."
Agrees that wrestlers work best when they're amplified versions of their own personalities, but that's not necessarily always going to be the case (cites Kenny Omega's recent character change as not really being true to who Kenny is as a person).
Says that overall he's a lot less nervous with AEW than he is with the Jaguars or Fulham, because a lot more things are under his control.
In regards to keeping kayfabe on social media, says that he doesn't necessarily think it's a big deal and he trusts his performers to handle it well. He has had to talk to people a couple times in regards to bad things they've said on social media, but generally that isn't an issue. Says that could change a bit once they're doing weekly TV. Wade Keller seems to be of the mindset that wrestlers should always be "on," but Tony doesn't necessarily seem to agree (he gives the example of the media scrums not being done in kayfabe, and it being fine because it's clearly separate from the PPV).
As far as being wrestler-friendly, they'll have a relatively light schedule (every Wednesday this year, other than Christmas, plus Full Gear on a Saturday). Not everyone on the roster is going to be on every show - by design to give people time off and breaks for a healthier work/life balance. If it's a "reasonable request," he will allow wrestlers to work independent dates outside of AEW. They also have a tuition-matching program for people looking to get an education (says that he believes WWE also offers that, but it would be very difficult to work that around WWE's schedule), and some wrestlers are able to have careers outside of wrestling, as well (such as Britt Baker's dentistry, who he would never want to force to be on the road for 5 days out of the week). Many wrestlers also work various in-office position with AEW.
Doesn't want to be a "control freak," and is very open to feedback and suggestions from wrestlers. They try to have producers and coaches that are very agreeable guys to work with (cites Jerry Lynn and Dean Malenko), and he would rather say "yes" than "no" to a wrestler's idea.
In regards to AEW forcing WWE to make a better on-air product, he says "that is already clearly happening." "Yes, I do expect they will have to make some changes to their shows to accommodate some things that we're doing, like, for example pyro, I don't think it's a coincidence that pyro came back." "When there's a competitive wrestling market it's better for the fans, it's definitely better for the wrestlers, and I think it's better for the companies, too, because the competition not only brings the best out of both companies, but the market it creates - let's face it, people are very excited with what's going on between AEW and WWE."
Wants to do with the women's division what WCW did with the cruiserweight division: notably with the joshi and how they interact with the western women.
Thinks his roster is as good as what any other brand has on TV in regards to in-ring skill and personality.
In regards to the recent RAW ending, "if people like that: great. It seemed like a lot of people didn't, but I'm sure there's some people that did, and I don't begrudge those people for liking it. Different people like different things in wrestling - everyone's entitled to their opinion." Goes on to say that he would never ban anyone from the arena for wearing a wrestling shirt from another promotion, and just thinks it's cool that you're wearing a wrestling shirt, period.
Defining success, he says that it's more subjective with AEW than his other sports teams. They've set benchmarks, internal targets, and network targets as goals. "I would like for this show to have a good audience and for this show to be on for many years. I would like to make the wrestling business a better place, as we've already done in 2019, I'd still like to be doing that in the future." "I would like for us to be a profitable company. I expect to make back everything I've invested and then some. When we're making profits it'll be that much sweeter."
No plans for house shows this year, and when they do start doing them it will not be every weekend. Never wants to be running 5-6 days a week. He'd "like to settle into doing somewhere between 85 and 125 dates a year... but again, every person doesn't need to be on every show, and I don't really see why anyone would be wrestling 100 times a year or more, for us."

Theres no chance they are a to2 since Formal doesnt want to play with Karma but that could change if they think they can get the old OG league spot by staying as a to2. If they dont get that then they wont be on the same team. Kenny and Tommy are thinking about offers to leave. I think they would take a move to OG to the mystery org especially if the $$$ is good. Attach isnt saying anything so no idea whats up with him. TK loses their league spot if Kenny leaves. I dont think KOS has the money to match the new org either if thats where he wants to go. Gunless is being sketchy and I guess hes still talking to Matt. I dont think he would go to OG or the new org without a few bands and he isnt the kind of guy to like the spotlight. All he does is grind cod more than anyone can guess. I dont think money is a big thing to him either unlike Matt. All 4 of the OG guys told everyone their done with OG so even if crim and scump go to the new org then I still dont see Matt and Damon staying on OG. I know Crim wants out and i think would only have a chance of staying on OG if Scump said he wants to stay on OG. If Scump stays on OG its because OG matched the offer from the new org. I think thats the only way OG would keep a league spot without buying out a full roster from another league team. It would cost just as much money to do that as matching the new orgs offer. I could be wrong on that 20K a month since I heard that from someone who said one of the OG guys told him. I watched the codcast and all I gotta say is it should be obvious whats going on and that it lines up with my other thread. Crim messed up when he said that damon will improve the team hes going to then caught himself and said "if he leaves or stays." I told you guys they didnt scrim because they were making a chance and crim sort of said the same shit. The higher ups that told damon to not go on codcast could have meant Holly. Karma just mentioned talking to Hecz in his stream. Which would explain why Hecz daughter and Damon's daughter were pictured on HEcz's wife's Twitter yesterday. So there is clearly still a stable relationship with the two, but it makes you start to think that the other guys are leaving OG. This is going to be a long process.

That isnt a buyout then. A buyout is a set number in the contract that allows the player to leave without the org having any say. Maybe they were trying to negotiate a lower amount.

Seems to me like the 3 sub meta is a problem for a lot of teams due to a lack of elite pro sub players in the scene but didn't the 3 sub meta start when pros decided to GA the best ARs? If they decided to use the FG/ITRA would the meta change to 2 subs, Bar, FG/ITRA? Wouldn't that make teams more balanced?

I understand the answer probably has something to do with the NFL’s trademark on “Super Bowl” but I’m still confused. Bars regularly advertise specials and promotions to come watch NFL games, name specific teams by their trademarked names, etc., but for some reason “Super Bowl” is never used. Does the NFL protect that trademark more than others? If so, why? You’d think the more publicity the more profitable they will be.
EA's support on its website is a joke. I requested a refund in a live chat, and the chat conveniently went down and nobody has responded since trying to open another one. I'm just tired. Madden Ultimate Team 19: Series 3 Release Info Thread + FAQ
Six weeks since the release of Series 2 in Madden Ultimate Team, it has come to an end, with this Friday transitioning players from Series 2 to Series 3 in game. That transition brings a host of changes. Let's detail them.
Players
A new Series does not bring many new players, but both Series 2 and Series 3 have dropped at least a couple of top-end cards and some new Power Ups allowing players more options in team-building, which is probably a pattern that will be followed going forward. Series 3 has two top-liners, in the form of a new Series 3 Master and a Journey: Joyride Master tied to a new solo sequence. The former is a 92 OVR version of Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery, and is obtainable in auctionable or NAT form from new sets that require 110 or 55 Series 3 or later Trophies, respectively; the latter is an NAT 91 OVR version of Patriots CB Stephon Gilmore that is the reward at the end of the Journey: Joyride solo sequence. The eight Power Ups that are new to the game this Friday — WR Brandin Cooks, WR Alshon Jeffery, LE DeMarcus Lawrence, RB Marshawn Lynch, RB Christian McCaffrey, DT Dontari Poe, WR Emmanuel Sanders, and LOLB T.J. Watt — are all players who have been featured as Primetime Performers or Team of the Week Heroes. And while there are still players who have been featured in those programs and lack Power Ups, this is more than twice as many new Power Ups as players got with Series 2. Players who watched Friday's Madden Daily Drops Twitch stream got a special Twitch drops pack containing one of these new Power Ups; the rest of the MUT player base will need to pull or buy these new Power Ups.
Solos
A whopping 100 new solos are now available in MUT in the form of a new solo sequence entitled Journey: Joyride. Those 100 solos are divided into six sub-sequences, and reward a total of 51,025 coins, five Gold Player packs, three Gold Premium packs, and the NAT 91 OVR Stephon Gilmore for full completion. There is not a new Gauntlet expansion in the Series 3 release, as many expected would come with Series 3, with that seeming more likely to be part of a Series 4 release. But there is the possibility that more Journey solo sequences could be on the way down the road, with the Series 3 Progression objectives list containing an objective that mentions a Journey: Cross Country solo sequence — the new name for the original Journey solo sequence. One would hope that EA being able to rebrand a past release and add an extension to it might make it easier, at least programmatically, to add another extension down the road.

In the case of the Silver and Gold Tokens, those changes are not dramatic: Silver Tokens should cost about 1,000 coins more, and Gold Tokens between 3,000 and 4,000 coins more. The difference in price between an 80-81 OVR card and a 86-87 OVR card, though, is about 30,000 coins, so I sure hope EA has factored that into its Elite Token economy. Early returns would suggest yes, as the player pools for the Flashbacks, Heavyweights, and Veterans sets have been updated to remove the lowest-OVR players previously available — in theory, you can now pull 88 OVR Flashbacks in any pack but the Flashbacks pack you get from the Token Exchange set — and the requirements for the Flashbacks set have actually been revised downward, with a fourth Silver Token taking the place of a third Gold Token.

Packs / Bundles / Items
Almost every pack and item in the Store as of Thursday, including all packs with disclosed odds, was set to expire at 10:30 a.m. Friday; that happened, with new Series 3 versions of those packs now available. As expected, these packs have incrementally better odds, and the buckets for OVRs have been upgraded. For example, the Get a Gold Player pack now produces 72 OVR players at a minimum; the high Silver slots in the Gold Player pack are now churning out 68 OVR Silvers at a minimum. How this changes odds for other packs will largely remain to be seen — EA very conspicuously (to my eye, anyway) swapped out what had been a weekly bundle offered beginning each Thursday with Elite Player packs and Rising Stars cards for one with Gridiron packs and Rising Stars cards this week, preventing us of immediately seeing whether Elite Player packs are now guaranteed to drop 82+ OVR Elites — but those updates did push the Gridiron pack's probability of containing an 80+ OVR Elite card from just under to just over 50 percent, so they are material global improvements to pack odds. Also, in mostly unsurprising news, almost everything that was Most Feared-related in the Store has now expired. What remains is almost entirely cosmetic, in the form of three uniform packs and a bundle containing two of them and the The Fearful Realm stadium item that can be upgraded with scheme chemistries. That item remains auctionable without those chemistries equipped, and prices on it appear to have risen from a low of around 50,000 coins to nearly 90,000 coins as of today. It might be a decent investment opportunity for a deep-pocketed player, and it's still not a bad way to turn Points very directly into coins.
Other Changes
While there is no MUT Level Cap increase tied to Series 3, the XP system itself got an overhaul, with base XP values getting doubled permanently. With that change in effect, EA is advertising a Quad XP weekend in all game modes. I guess that's a slightly simpler way of explaining "We're doubling base XP forever and then doubling it again for a limited time" than saying that, specifically, and it certainly makes for a better graphic, but "Quad XP" is obviously a bit of a misnomer, something that Kraelo acknowledges in his forum post detailing that change. I'll be re-releasing an updated version of my guide to XP this weekend.

So why is it underwhelming?
I can really only speak for myself, but the Series 2 release bringing a Level Cap increase that helped turn Level Master Ricky Williams from a good player to the best running back in the game, a premium Series Master in Telvin Smith, and new Gauntlet solos and the new Gauntlet cards that came with it made it feel like Series releases were going to be regular and massive updates. This Series 3 release appears to me to have less exciting top-end cards — the Gilmore is very good, but Gilmore is not among the top five corners in the NFL in popular perception at the moment; the Jeffery is ... an Alshon Jeffery card — a batch of solos that is likely to be more of a grind than a challenge, and rewards that are concentrated in those solos rather than in leveling up. And while I think these Series 3 rewards are fine, I also think I preferred the packs and opportunities earned from leveling up at the beginning of Series 2 (two Elite Player packs and two Legends Fantasy packs, plus the opportunities to buy packs containing specific players for Points and coins) over the packs earned from this Journey and the Training and full Legends player earned from the Series 3 Progression objectives list — even though these rewards are all free and easily obtained based on play, rather than opportunities to buy packs obtained by opening up a wallet. That speaks to a unique element of MUT: Packs, even if they are more risk and often less reward, are more fun for many players to get as rewards than pure resources, even if savvy players will almost always be able to make resources stretch further than packs. The element of chance and of surprise in packs — which is, yes, rooted in MUT being more casino-like than EA would care to admit — is a powerful draw, and better packs, especially Fantasy packs that give players the illusion of control over chance, are among the best rewards MUT can deliver. EA would do well to remember this, I think, even if it means reducing coin rewards.

Sports betting may be legal in 8 states, but an American Gaming Association survey indicated that 95% of the expected $6 billion to be wagered on Super Bowl 53 (up from $4.76 billion last year) will be placed through unregulated or illegal channels. 8% of fans (1.8 million) gambling illegally on the game will place bets with their local bookies, the balance will give their business to off-shore online sportsbooks. Super Bowl bettors have been slow to migrate to a legal means of wagering, just 2% of those who bet on last year’s game illegally are expected to transition to a licensed gaming operator this time around. Howie Long-Short: With 15% of the country offering legalized sports betting and the regulated gaming industry only expecting to covert 2% of fans from grey markets for the Big Game, it’s worth wondering why gamblers are foregoing the legal avenues available to them. From a poorly thought out marketing strategy, to horrible advertising content, to amateur P Damage control. --Poor Marketing Strategy in past 2 years. First look at the demographics of who you DIDN'T need to market to. A large pool of people already playing, mostly consisting of: - Serious SL players who came to DFS though ads on CBS, ESPN, etc. - Profesional gamblers - College students/ young adults 18-35 You already had most of these guys the first time they ever played/won. The game sold it self. Now, who you DO need to target to continue growth. - Males 45-60 - Casual SL players of all ages - Women 18 -60 - Possibly even the elderly. Go to any casino, they love to gamble. The ads I've seen on TV and heard on radio over the last 2 years are clearly geared toward a market that was already owned. So now on to the ads themselves. --- Poor advertising content / execution. So let's start by building an example guy we need to target from the analysis above. June 19, 2002 – September 2004 (2 hrs, 8pm, Wednesdays) TNA airs the first-ever episodic TV show to air weekly on a Pay-Per-View Basis. This format would be dropped two months after TNA Impact begins airing on FSN, going with monthly PPV’s much like WCW, ECW, and WWF/E starting in November. This would continue until January 2013. June 4, 2005 – May 27, 2005 (1hr, 4pm Local Time) TNA begins airing TNA Impact! Friday afternoons on FSN, with a replay late Friday/Saturday night at 1am local time or 11pm PT for the West Coast networks. Time slot purchased as a pay-to-broadcast entity. The company also agrees to tape Impact from Universal Studios Soundstage 20, which becomes dubbed The Impact Zone. This is the first time a company has aired a weekly national cable or syndication broadcast from the same venue since ECW’s Hardcore TV (syndication) were held at the 2300 Arena and WCW Saturday Night TV tapings being held at The Center Stage in Atlanta. FSN opts not to renew the deal. June 2005 – September 2005: (1hr, various) Friday nights on Urban American TV, a now-defunct network only available in 22 million homes as a Low-Power independent affiliate over the course of its time. The show was also available via webcast from the company's website as it would be uploaded every Friday at 1pm ET. Spike TV Era: October 1, 2005 – March 2006: (1hr, 11pm Saturdays) Spike had the distinction to become the first station to carry two promotions nationally for the first time since TBS in 1987 when they aired the final episode of WWE Velocity at 10pm on October 1, 2005, followed by TNA Impact. This would be the first time of this known occurrence until Destination America airs ROH Wrestling and TNA's Impact Wrestling on Wednesdays in 2015. Spike also airs a two-hour TNA Impact Wrestling special on November 3, 2005 with a special 10pm ET start time. The show was taped on October 25th, with a main event featuring Jeff Jarrett regaining the NWA World Heavyweight Title from Rhino, to whom he lost the title at the company's flagship PPV, Bound For Glory, on October 23rd. March 2006 – November 2006: (1 hr, 11pm, Thursdays) with above-average ratings in a Saturday 11pm Timeslot that stayed consistent over time, Spike moves Impact from Saturday nights to Thursday nights. Ratings see an increase to an average rating slightly above 1.0. November 2006 – September 27, 2007: (1hr, 9pm, Thursdays) with ratings being a moderate success over the course of eight months in its 11pm timeslot on Thursdays, Spike announces its move to place TNA on two hours earlier, with a repeat of the 9pm broadcast to air at Midnight, as well as various times throughout the week. The various reruns would eventually cease during 2008, with it re-airing three hours after its original broadcast time, which would also come to an end in late 2008. October 4, 2007 – March 4, 2010 (2hrs, 9pm, Thursdays) -Impact extends from one to two hours a week. -Spike airs a one hour Global Impact special on January 17, 2008 at 10pm ET, which provides Impact starting an hour earlier for the week. This special features TNA wrestlers who had matches at New Japan's annual January 4th Tokyo Dome Show, Wrestle Kingdom II. The main event is Kurt Angle retaining his IGF/IWGP Heavyweight Title against Yuji Nagata. -For the first time in company history, Impact airs live on March 27, 2008. With WWE's flagship WrestleMania XXIV emanating from Orlando's Citrus Bowl the following Sunday, the company projects to take advantage of the crowds in town for the show. They tape the following week's show on Friday. Of note during the live broadcast, Derek Graham-Crouch, known as the WWE's Rory McAllister of the tag team "The Highlanders", is shown on camera by his birth name, to prevent any WWE lawsuits over copyright infringement and/or usage of a registered trademark with the company. Graham-Crouch forfeits his $5,000 WrestleMania payout bonus and is subsequently released in August of that year. -On October 23, 2008, TNA transitioned from a standard-definition broadcast to a High-Definition (HD) broadcast. To celebrate with this, Impact! Is aired LIVE for the second time and the first time away from The Impact Zone. It takes place from The Joint, a 4500-seat venue located inside the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. -Global Impact 2 airs on October 8, 2009, at 11pm, after Impact airs. This show, much like the previous year's incarnation, airs matches of TNA wrestlers taped at New Japan's annual January 4th Tokyo Dome show, Wrestle Kingdom III. Despite airing on U.S. Television nine months after the matches are taped, the matches shown revolve around storylines that were no longer existent and titles (IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team and IWGP Tag Team) that were no longer revolved around TNA storylines with current wrestlers. January 4, 2010 show (3hrs, 8pm, Monday) -January 4, 2010 is the to-date peak of TNA Impact. For the first time since March 26, 2001, two wrestling companies air head-to-head in a time slot on American television when TNA goes against WWE's flagship program, RAW. It was a boost on both ends for each company's respective audiences, as Impact's first hour is watched by 3 million viewers, the most in the show's history, while RAW averages 5.6 million viewers, it's highest total since August of 2009. Impact's final two hours decline to 2.2 million viewers. Both shows deliver a strong main-event slot performance, with TNA giving away AJ Styles defending the TNA World Heavyweight Title against Kurt Angle, with WWE having a Vince McMahon-Bret Hart confrontational promo to end their show.In what is deemed a “grand experiment”, TNA decides to air TNA Impact! LIVE Head-to-head with WWE’s flagship TV program, WWE RAW. TNA advertises the debut of Hulk Hogan, with WWE countering with Bret Hart’s first return to WWE programming since the Montreal Screwjob of 1997. Many debuts and returns occur that night for TNA, including the returns of Jeff Hardy, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, and Sean Waltmann, as well as the debuts of Hogan, Eric Bischoff, Ric Flair and The Nasty Boys. Hardy’s return occurs during the show’s first segment, an X-Division Xscape Match. The Main Event slots for each show feature TNA giving away a World Heavyweight Title match between AJ Styles and Kurt Angle, while RAW counters with the long-awaited Vince McMahon-Bret Hart confrontation. March 8, 2010 – March 29, 2010 (9pm, Mondays) With the success of the January 4th show, TNA begins it's move to Monday nights. Although the move becomes temporary, the move is called MNW 2.0, or the 2nd coming of the Monday Night Wars. TNA will air live on a bi-weekly basis, which results in dismal ratings of the 3/29 show, which is the RAW go home show to WrestleMania XXV. In response to the Monday night move, Spike continues to re-air Impact on Thursdays in it's old timeslot. The ratings for the Thursday re-air are higher than the Monday live/first-run broadcasts of the show during the course of their Monday night run. April 5, 2010 – May 3, 2010 (8pm, Mondays) With the April 5th show being live and to possibly avoid another ratings disaster the night after WrestleMania XXV, Spike and TNA decide to begin airing TNA an hour earlier than usual. The first hour sees an increase in viewership, with the last two weeks showing dismal drops in the ratings head-to-head with RAW. May 3rd would be the last time two companies went head-to-head on American cable television for over four years, when Lucha Underground's Ultima Lucha special goes head-to-head with Impact in August 2015. May 13, 2010 – May 24, 2012 (9pm, Thursdays) Spike and TNA announce that TNA will return to first-run broadcasts on Thursday nights after the dismal taped April 26th broadcast on May 13th. TNA re-brands the show as Impact Wrestling, the name it continues to use to this day at the May 3, 2011 taping (to air May 12, 2011). "TNA" is slowly phased out on all broadcast of the show, with the term "Total Nonstop Action" or "TNA" only seen on the closing credits as TNA Entertainment, LLC. TNA is only mentioned with championship titles on Impact Wrestling until after Bound For Glory VI in October 2011, when announcers start referring to the company again as TNA, TNA Wrestling or Total Nonstop Action Wrestling instead of Impact Wrestling. The show continues to this day in set-top box guides and TV listings as Impact Wrestling, being the only company with a national TV deal to leave out the company's acronym. During this time period, the company begins to air periodic live shows when they take the show on the road for double-events (same day tape delay, tape next week’s show after that). This was done in markets where the show garnered higher ratings than normal, such as Huntsville, AL, (Von Braun Civic Center) and Knoxville, TN (Knoxville Coliseum). May 31, 2012 – May 23, 2013 (8pm, Thursdays) TNA announces that for the remainder of 2012, Impact Wrestling will air LIVE on Thursdays for the duration of the year. The company also begins to slowly phase out taping it's show at Soundstage 21 at the end of the year and begin to air live on a semi-regular basis from various venues across the country. The first live Impact held outside of Orlando since the Las Vegas taping takes place on March 14, 2013 from the Sears Centre right outside of Chicago. It is also during this time the company decides to cease monthly PPV offerings, airing 4 in 2013, 5 in 2014, and 2 in 2015. The company opts to air monthly "One Night Only" specials, which are taped months in advance for a cheaper value. TNA also terminates its lease with Universal Studios a mere days later, only to return there in November to Soundstage 19, after rising costs for taking the show on the road. Impact Wrestling moves from Soundstage 19 to 20 on March 13, 2014, as 19 was only a temporary venue as 21 was now being occupied by somebody else. The November 21, 2013 return to Universal Studios is the last time TNA airs Live on Spike. Beginning on February 27, 2014, TNA airs head-to-head with NXT ARival, which airs exclusive on WWE's Over-the-top Platform internet channel, WWE Network. The first hour of TNA airs against NXT on the OTT platform until the final airing in this time slot. May 30, 2013 – August 14, 2014 (9pm, Thursdays) With the show going on the road and doing double-tapings for “LIVE” broadcasts, TNA and Spike bump the show back an hour to allow double-tapings to occur on the East Coast. Although the show is branded as being “LIVE”, it is broadcast anywhere between a 30 minute to two hour tape delay. The February 27, 2014 broadcast was the first show to go head-to-head with another company other than WWE; WWE’s developmental territory, NXT. NXT airs on WWE’s over-the-top (OTT) streaming network, WWE Network. The quarterly special’s second hour goes head-to-head with TNA, which leads the company to move the show to Wednesdays. August 20, 2014 – December 24, 2014 (9pm, Wednesdays) With Spike and TNA coming to an end of their ten-year relationship and to avoid a ratings disaster with the upcoming football season (NFL moves eight Thursday games from cable to terrestrial television), the network burns off the remaining taped episodes of Impact Wrestling. Spike agrees to allow TNA on for an additional two months, as the deal ran through October while they find a new home. Destination America Era January 7, 2015 (9pm, Wednesday) The premiere episode debuts on Destination America LIVE, albeit with moderate success. Impact Wrestling goes from being available in 93.4 million homes to being available in less than 60 million homes (roughly 59.7 million). The return of replay broadcasts return for Impact Wrestling, as DA subsequently replays the show at Midnight on its original broadcast date for the duration of its run. January 16, 2015 – May 29, 2015 (9pm, Fridays) With WWE Smackdown moving from Fridays to Thursdays staring January 15th, TNA and DA opt to move Impact Wrestling from Wednesdays to Fridays to avoid any quarterly conflict with NXT. This move doesn’t last that long, as the company’s ratings drop drastically. June 3, 2015 – December 2015 (9pm, Wednesdays) The show moves back to Wednesdays, as TNA feels it provides a better audience. During this move, this also provides a few historical perspectives: Destination America becomes the first cable network since 1987 to carry multiple companies on its channel, debuting ROH Wrestling from Ring of Honor in the 11pm time slot. It is also the first time since October 1, 2005, that two company’s air back-to-back on the same channel. August 5, 2015 provides the first head-to-head encounter of two company’s since Impact and RAW faced off on May 3, 2010, when Lucha Underground presents Ultima Lucha on the El Rey Network. POP ERA January 5, 2016 – December 2016 and possibly beyond (9pm, Tuesdays) TNA gains a few good and bad with the move from Destination America to POP: an increase of availability from 59.7 million homes to 75.2 million homes.
