Amy Schumer can EABOD

A friend directed me to Amy Schumer trashing us today. And she can EABOD.
I was a little more upset about it earlier, but I was confusing Tina Fey with Amy Schumer (after all, they seem to be joined at the hip), and I really like the Unstoppable Kimmie Schmidt. It still wasn't very nice. She was giving some kind of lifestyles interview on BBC and was asked what place she would never want to go to and she said Reno. "It's a dump!," she averred.
Amy Schumer probably hasn't ever even lived in a real dump, she was born into a wealthy family on Manhattan's East side. When the family went 'bankrupt' it meant living on Long Island with the trust funds, not moving to Jersey City. Always easy to poke fun at Reno when you live your childhood in Manhattan and spent your entire life with a silver shoe in your mouth. Much of what we offer in Reno isn't going to be attractive to a snooty city girl who isn't quite 'outdoorsy'. And never had the kind of parents who tell you that if you have nothing pleasant to say then keep it shut.
Even more than the idiotic judgment is the obvious ignorance displayed in making it. How many times has she been to Reno? She probably did some stand up here, but did she ever once step foot off casino property? And where has she been in the world that she can make this comparison? Has she ever been to Mogadishu? Any Muslim country? How about Alabama? Admittedly, the big Reno casinos are kinda trashy when compared to the mega casinos on the Vegas Strip. But has she been to Atlantic City lately? How about Branson, Missouri?
Her stupidity and ignorance is obvious and don't speak well of her, but that's not the real reason she can EABODs. No, her final sin is that she thinks her antics are so fucking witty. Our society values witty and clever more than substance and it's getting tiresome. It's where we get all these memes that get run into the ground. Rather than an insightful and supported position or comment, it's easier to just channel your inner Oscar Wilde ( a man who knows a thing or two about eating a bag of dicks) and be ever so erudite. It's the same 'I'm on a whole different plain of existence from you' level common in grammar Nazis. An effort to stay relevant for that extra little bit, to say look at me, I'm smart and funny and ever so witty.
None of this is to deny that Reno is a bit of a dump, it just isn't a world class dump that deserves to be called out on BBC. More the county land fill where you take your lawn clippings than an apocalyptic superfund site. Most places are kinda a dump in some ways and we have some rather pretty places around town. But the things that make out town a bit of a dump are the very things Amy Schumer has never seen, and wouldn't understand if she did.
Please note that I have gone this entire rant without pointing out that Amy isn't aging well and in ten years she's going to look like the monster that ate Christy Allie. I just don't need to go there. EABODs Amy.
